A wise man once said, “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” As a former collegiate long distance runner, that metaphor has always resonated with me. I have resolved to run my race well, no matter what surprises the course may reveal.
Hard working roots
I come from a long line of ironworkers. As a young man, I followed in my father’s footsteps and worked construction in the desert. That experience was one of the most grueling, yet educational times in my life. To provide for their families, I saw workers endure heat exhaustion, crippling injuries, and iron so hot it seared their skin. I caught a glimpse of what my father had sacrificed to provide for me.
Many did not think I would make it out of what ironworkers affectionately called the “rod-patch,” but I kept my eyes on my own race. I ultimately saved up for school and became an attorney. While my race is no longer in that scorching desert, I will never forget that stretch of the course and its many lessons.
Skilled attorney
I am an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas. My experience, work ethic, and tenacity have empowered me to become successful and respected; and I am honored to be part of such an excellent legal team that strives to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Texans. I have a proven track record in the courtroom with demonstrated leadership, and the determination to see justice served. I am often asked to assist with the most difficult cases. My career demonstrates a diversity of practice that has won results at all levels of Texas courts. In particular, I am proud of my efforts to protect Texans from a wide array of threats, including unscrupulous businesses that interfere with competition and prey on the state’s most vulnerable citizens.
Serves community
While I have been involved in various service organizations over the years, my experience with the Round Rock Area Serving Center has been particularly meaningful. After the financial collapse of 2008, I knew that I needed to do more than merely hope for the best for our community. Consequently, I began working in the Serving Center’s garden to help grow fresh produce to stock the food pantry, and have enjoyed being a part of that community for many years.
I am also privileged to lead a community group for The Quarries Church. We meet regularly to encourage each other, grow in our faith, keep each other accountable, and serve others.
Devoted to family
My wife and I have been married for eight years. She is a devoted wife and mother, in whom I have unwavering adoration and trust. We have faced many blessings and trials, and each has strengthened our faith and brought us closer together.
A little over three years ago, we welcomed a beautiful daughter into the world. Within minutes of her birth, the doctor told us that she has special needs, requiring care throughout her life. With her diagnosis came a new world of hospitals, specialists, alternative vocabulary, special education, and a subculture of wonderful similarly situated families. While she is most often embraced with open arms, we quickly became sensitized to the societal challenges of those differently abled. Our daughter has been an overwhelming blessing in our lives, and has renewed and strengthened our commitment to value life at every stage.
